Multipurpose Control Display Unit (MCDU)

The Multipurpose Control Display Unit (MCDU) was assambled from several parts. These parts are: The Panel, an intermediate plate for all switches and cables and a screen which comes from an attachment for a game console.

The screen and its PCB for the connectors were removed from the case and later on adapted to the MCDU-Panel.

All keys had to be glued seperatly on small plates which prevent them from being lifted out of the panel accidentally.

After all keys had been glued they were put into the panel. We used the Keyboard Emulator from Opencockpits for sending the signals from the panels to the computer.

Next the screen was adapted and connected to a PC via S-Video connectors. The screen is used as a second monitor. Because of that fact, we could play Solitaire on our MCDU if we wanted to.

Testpage of the Software we are using (Virtual Aviation Suite FMC).

The hardware is complete, the display of the Software was tested so the first MCDU Panel can be inserted into our Pedestal-Framework.
